Micro/sys Releases
Trio of New General-Purpose StackableUSB Industrial Client
Microcontroller Boards
Montrose, CA...
Micro/sys continues to expand its selection of StackableUSB boards with the
release of three (3) general-purpose industrial Client microcontroller boards:
the USB1132,
USB1124, and USB1108. When
combined with off-the-shelf embedded SBCs, these new plug-on I/O boards easily
enable the SBCs to perform mid-range control functions. Each plug-and-play
microcontroller module covers a range of A/D, digital I/O, RS232, and timer
control functions on an extremely small (1.85" x 1.78") footprint, making them
affordable and easy to add onto embedded systems.
The first in this
family of Client-side microcontrollers is the USB1132,
a PIC32 Industrial Client microcontroller that is ideal for applications that
require more performance than microcontrollers have typically offered in the
past. Powered by the Microchip PIC32, the USB1132
has 1.56 DMIPS/MHz performance at 80MHz, 512KB flash, and 32KB SRAM memory.
Features include 16 channel, 10-bit, 500ksps ADC, RS232, eight (8) programmable
LEDs, digital I/O, and much more (SPI, I2C, timers).
The next offering is the USB1124, the
more energy-economical PIC24 Industrial Client microcontroller. Powered by the
Microchip PIC24, the USB1124 has 16
MIPS performance at 32MHz, 256KB flash, and 16KB SRAM memory. With features
similar to that of the USB1132, the USB1124
is well-suited for applications with limited power or remote locations, as the
16 MIPS performance typically requires only 40mA power—a figure small enough
for battery-powered applications.
Rounding out the new selection is the Micro/sys
USB1108. Powered by an 8-bit, pipelined, 8051 General Purpose
microcontroller (the Silicon Labs C8051F340), the
USB1108 has 48 MIPS performance at 48MHz, 64KB flash, 2K EEPROM, and
4352 bytes RAM. The USB1108 gives OEMs
access to basic microcontroller features such as a 10-bit differential ADC,
digital I/O, timers, PWMs, SPI, I2C, and RS232.
The exceptional
feature that sets these boards apart from other controllers is StackableUSB,
which is the smallest stackable form factor (1.85" x 1.78") and a platform that
enables the most cost-effective, space-efficient addition of control I/O.
StackableUSB supports automatic enumeration, allowing the Host to detect each
Client when plugged into the stack and then prompting the Host to install the
drivers necessary for the system to operate with minimal human intervention.
StackableUSB also supports power management, permitting boards to be placed in
a low-power mode to conserve power. In addition, each of these three new boards
is rated for industrial temperature operation (-40°C to +85°C).
The basic
USB1132 starts at $165 in single quantity, the
USB1124 at $145, and USB1108 at
$125. Significant OEM discounts are available on all boards. Contact Technical
