Micro/sys Releases
StackableUSB Carrier Boards for SUMIT
Montrose, CA...
Micro/sys adds to the growing line of StackableUSB carrier and hub boards with
the addition of a SUMIT version enabling StackableUSB I/O modules to make
plug-and-play connections to SUMIT CPU single board computers. The
CRR-SUMIT and HUB-SUMIT
attach to SUMIT-enabled 104 Form Factor (3.55"x3.775") SBCs providing OEM users
four bays for the powerfully small StackableUSB I/O modules which come either
USB, SPI or I2C enabled. By converting the SUMIT pin out to the well-defined,
industry-leading StackableUSB standard, these carrier and hub boards give new
flexibility to OEMs in the stackable market. Each StackableUSB bay is ideally
suited for embedded control applications as it eliminates the confusion and
unwarranted complexity of PCIe signals which are ill-matched for the majority
of embedded purposes. Each offering in this innovative family of products
provides a bridge permitting users to select off-the-shelf single board
computers from various manufacturers while still enjoying the advantages of the
increasingly popular standardized StackableUSB embedded I/O devices.
"The stackable
embedded world is at a crossroads as it waits for the market to settle on an
industry standard for stackable serial communication. Everything points to USB
as the most appropriate protocol for the embedded market. As a result, OEMs are
being inundated with various watered-down USB protocols which place the burden
on the OEM to maneuver compatibility and basic embedded board-to-board
logistics. To give OEMs maximum flexibility during this transition, Micro/sys
has created the carrier/hub family of products which provides OEMs the freedom
to employ the expertise from multiple CPU vendors through a simple translation
to the StackableUSB well-defined electrical and mechanical specification for
industrial embedded USB," comments Susan Wooley, CEO of Micro/sys.
Depending on one’s application needs and the CPU’s serial offerings, Micro/sys
offers a root-port carrier and a hub version. The HUB-SUMIT expands a single
USB port from the SBC into 4 USB channels. Alternatively, the CRR-SUMIT allows
an OEM to interface with up to four separate root USB ports from the SBC,
assuming the SBC has that number of Client ports.
Additionally, for users who are concerned about stacking I/O devices directly
over the CPU (as the SUMIT standard requires), the CRR-SUMIT and HUB-SUMIT
solve OEMs’ space concerns for air circulation.
The basic
CRR-SUMIT starts at $125 in single quantity. The basic
HUB-SUMIT starts at $150 in single quantity. Significant OEM discounts
are available on all boards. Contact Technical Sales Dept., Micro/sys, Inc.,
